Joanne Brackeen: Pink Elephant Magic CD in a jewel case.

On this Grammy nominated Arkadia Records album, Joanne Brackeen: Pink Elephant Magic, legendary Jazz pianist Joanne Brackeen displays an unbridled artistic creativity and passion through her distinctive compositional skills and her piano virtuosity in this recording with all-star guests Nicholas Payton, Kurt Elling, David Liebman and Chris Potter and her world-class rhythm section of John Patitucci and Horacio "El Negro" Hernandez.

“…her peers would be the first to say that the New York-based artist ranks with the finest…a shot of virtuosity and invention. Fittingly, the CD is on Arkadia Jazz, One of the hippest and most uncompromising labels on today’s scene.
‘Pink Elephant Magic shows off not only Brackeen’s talents as a leader and improviser, but also as a composer. The range of material she covers and the players she attracts…are testament to the depth of her music.- - Bob Young, Boston Herald

“One of the most distinctive, exciting jazz pianists in the world" -- Down Beat

…I can assure you (if you like solidly played jazz) that this will be one of your favorite albums for years to come. A definite keeper that gets our MOST HIGHLY RECOMMENDED 3 times over! – Improvijazzation Nation

Brackeen has been serious about Jazz piano since her late teens, when she became part of the LA jazz scene. She worked with Teddy Edwards, Dexter Gordon, Harold Land and Charles Lloyd before moving to New York. After arriving in the Jazz Mecca, she became the first women to fill the distinguished piano chair with Art Blakey’s Jazz Messengers. Before she put together her own group, she also worked with Stan Getz, Freddie Hubbard, and Joe Henderson.

“Her powerful, two-fisted playing has absorbed all the major modern jazz piano styles, notably those of McCoy Tyner, Chick Corea, Bill Evans, Herbie Hancock, Bud Powell, Keith Jarrett, Randy Weston and even a little bit of Cecil Taylor; her improvisations whiz around the keyboard, undaunted by harmonic complexity or high speeds.” – Jon Pareles, New York Times

Joanne Brackeen: Pink Elephant Magic features world class musicians in an unparallel performance of creative and passionate improvisations, as well as thoughtful and renowned compositions from one of Jazz’s most distinguished modern pianists.
